Excerpt from Loosed, As I Went, I Was Healed

It has been over eight years, but I still recall the day, as if it were today. It is a hot summer morning. I am driving down Lake Shore Drive on my way to work. A feeling of fear makes me more aware of the ordinary things around me. I don?t know which moment will be my last. This particular beautiful morning, I pay attention to the birds and the jewel colored lake that stretches along beside me as I drive. I have made the decision to no longer hide from the man who is now my ex-husband for the second time.

I exit Lake Shore Drive and enter the parking garage near my work. I pull into a stall, open the car door and glance into my rear view mirror. I see something make a quick movement. It is my ex-husband. He instructs me to get back into the car. Instead I decide I am not going to let him get into my car. I get out of the car and he stands beside me. I begin to try to make my way between parked cards onto the ramp. My hope is to draw some attention and to escape. My ex-husband follows, looking deranged. He doesn?t seem to be the man I had known. I can?t find the words to describe him. He tells me he wants me to go with him, and watch him kill himself. I tell him, I am not going with you. My voice is loud so as to attract others. You don?t have to do this.

Let?s pray! He answers, "it?s too late".

There is nothing God can do for me now.
